Students Say

Brianne Tong, 6A (2025)

Being in Waterway Primary has shaped a major part in who I am today and i will forever be grateful to the school, especially the teachers, staff and friends i have made along the way. There are many teachers that i am grateful for, for example my prefect teachers in charge, my CCA teachers, my form teachers, etc.

However, the teacher that first gave me the opportunity to serve the school as a leader, who believed in me even though I was really shy at first, was Mrs Serene Ng. She was my form teacher in primary three and four and despite knowing that i was very shy, to the extent that i didn’t even dare to answer her questions in class at first, she still believed in me and appointed me as a junior prefect.

After becoming a junior leader, I learnt to step out of my comfort zone and to gain the courage to step up and lead. I was inspired by seniors before me and with the teachers’ encouragement and guidance, i learnt how to lead better with care and confidence. In primary 5, I was elected to serve the school as Head Prefect and to be part of the EXCO team. That was definitely an important part of my life and primary school journey! Together with the EXCO team of 2025, we planned and led many initiatives under the guidance of our teachers.

After my leadership journey in primary school, i developed a passion for leadership and even now, in my secondary school, St Nicholas Girls’ School, i am actively seeking new opportunities to lead, to serve and to improve as not just a leader, but as a person too.

Being part of the Waterway Family was a truly memorable journey! Thus, to all the juniors and incoming students, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Our teachers taught us this since primary one and it has been something that I always tell myself. Don’t let the fear of being imperfect limit you because nobody is perfect! The more mistakes we make, the more we grow and learn and that’s part of how life works. Be open to new opportunities, strive to be a better individual each day and always be grateful for the people around you because even though you might not remember every friend, classmate or teacher that you’ve had, the feeling that they left and the memories you’ve make will be unforgettable.

As I continue my journey ahead, I will carry with me the lessons, values, and courage that Waterway Primary has instilled in me. So take that first step, embrace every opportunity, and make your own journey in Waterway, one that you will look back on with pride and gratitude.

Eva Chee Shi Ke, 6B (2025)

The six years I spent at Waterway Primary School were truly meaningful. I made many friends that have stuck with me up until now and learnt useful skills that I still use from time to time. I have many people to thank for this, of course, like my form teachers, the teachers in charge of prefects, subject teachers and so many more!

However, there’s one teacher in particular that I’d like to show my utmost gratitude to, Mrs. Serene Ng. She was my form teacher in primary 3 and 4, and really saw and brought out the potential in me. I remember we had a few lessons about debating skills, and when I had gone up to speak, she told me that she “saw a fire in my eyes” that she had never seen before. That was how I ended up in the school’s debate programme. I was confused at first, because in reality, I was extremely nervous to speak in front of the class, and barely managed to make it through. But overtime, I stepped more out of my comfort zone and gradually became more confident. I eventually joined the school’s debate team and went against various schools, which really allowed me to sharpen my mind. It’s fascinating to think that none of this would have happened if it weren’t for Mrs. Ng, who saw the spark in me before I did. I carried this spark with me throughout the years, and it led to things like becoming vice-head prefect!

Even after all these years, I still reminisce about the after school meetings I would have with the EXCO team. They were filled with joy and laughter, and I always looked forward to the next ones!

One piece of advice I would give to the primary one’s is that it’s okay if you fail sometimes. Failure is part of learning. I know that it may be mentioned a lot, but it really is something that has stuck with me. There were times where I was feeling down or frustrated because I just couldn’t get something done right. But I realised, in hindsight, that this was all part of the ‘trial-and-error’ experience that learning was.

Mia Le Fei Kittle, 6D (2025)

My six years in Waterway Primary School has shaped me into being the confident and resilient leader that I am today. During my first few years, I was a shy kid who couldn’t speak for myself yet. Which is why, I am so thankful for Mdm Hawa who saw the potential in me and nominated me for junior prefect. Being a leader in Waterway Primary was one of the best experiences I have had in primary school.

As it allowed me to grow as a person, bond with others, in and outside of school, and make memories that I will carry forever. I am also very grateful for my P6 form teachers, Ms Tay and Ms J, who helped me in not only my studies, but my moral compass and values. They always saw the good in me and believed in me from the start. Today, as I stand in secondary school, I think of the memories I made in Waterway Primary, that has allowed me to achieve my goals, such as going into one of my dream schools, Xinmin Secondary.

One of my favourite experiences would be the many late meetings the EXCO and me went through together. Not all were as productive as anticipated, but they all brought joy to each of us. The EXCO was also how I entered my friend group, who was so supportive and enthusiastic about everything. However, not everything is about being a leader, like during morning assembly, they would be these really cool and informative videos about what’s happening outside of the school gates.

My advice to the new P1s would be to enjoy your time in Waterway Primary school, as it goes by in a blink, be open to new opportunities, and strive for excellence in what ever you do. And that’s why I will never regret joining Waterway Primary school!

Dominic Lee, 6D (2025)

Being in Waterway Primary School, was one of my foundations in life. The teachers, staff, friends and even the principals played a major part of my character and values. Ever since I was as young as Primary 1, the teachers were always patient, calm, fun and kind, I really enjoyed primary school life, everyday I wake up with a smile knowing that I have the best teachers and friends waiting for me there! Being in Waterway Primary was a privilege as there were many CCAs, facilities and schoolmates!

I am really grateful for everything they have given me, the teachers, my role in the EXCO committee, CCA, class committee, friends, the school and my parents.

Even though I successfully used Direct School Admission (DSA) to St Andrew’s Secondary, during the PSLE period, I was going through a rough time as I did not do well for the preliminary exam, but with the help of my teachers, my friends and my family, I managed to score well in my Primary School Leaving Examination(PSLE) and entered my dream school, St Andrew’s Secondary.

I would like to thank my teachers, friends and my parents for trusting in me and giving me the opportunity to become an EXCO member. When you’re an EXCO member here in Waterway, you will be involved in planning, executing and organising activities. You may even make friends with many of your juniors and the teachers-in-charge.

THANK YOU WATERWAY!

Alvina Dzita Binte Muhammad Zaini, 6 Resilience (2026)

My years in Waterway Primary School have shaped me into being the confident and friendly person I am today. Waterway Primary feels like my second home. What made my journey throughout the years more meaningful were my teachers, staff, and my friends that I have made. However, the teacher who had always believed in me, was Mr Chan. Most teachers only saw my shy character, but Mr Chan noticed my potential to serve as a leader.

From that day on, I tried my best to prove that I was a good leader. And now, despite the challenges I will face in the future, I won't give up. Because one thing that being a leader at the school has taught me, is to be resilient. As I move on to the next chapter of my life next year, I will always hold on to lessons I learnt and the memories I made.

Callie Chua Wei Xuan, 6 Integrity (2026)

The school taught me resilience, growth mindset and thinking outside the box. Whenever we face a challenge, both academic and physical problems, the teachers would encourage us to try before they taught us or gave us the answer. This allowed me to notice how much I knew, I just needed to put in the effort to think and understand the question. The teachers would also encourage us to solve problems on our own before they help us to teach us responsibility.

In school, CCA helped me find my passion in dance. When I first joined CCA, the seniors there were really kind and the ice breaking session was really fun. Though some sessions were tough and the dances were not easy, I kept pushing myself and I found myself improving.

One member of the school I will definitely not forget is the stall 6 canteen food stall uncle. I often order from that stall and he would always greet me with a smile and would even remember my order! It made me feel noticed and it would make my day just seeing him and ordering from him.

One unforgettable experience I had is the P5 cohort camp. It was a great bonding way to allow me to get to know my new classmates, the activities were fun and encouraging and I really enjoyed myself there. The camp had different activities each day and each one made me feel different. I really loved the campfire performance especially because me and my classmates worked very hard together to make the dance with such limited time!

Some advice I have for the P1s is that studies might be hard and you might have the feeling to quit but don’t quit! When you try, you will move forward and not stay at the same spot!

Tan Yi Xuan Isabella, 6 Empathy (2026)

Through my 6 years of learning, I realised learning at Waterway Primary School is fun and enjoyable! I used to be very shy and quiet so I kept to myself and only have a few friends. However, now, I speak up more and have more friends. I also became more hardworking than in the past when I am in Waterway Primary School.

I think Science might have helped me find my passion. I used to not be very interested in Science but now, I like Science. During Science lessons, we can explore, do research and create experiments. Now, I am in E2K Science and I also made new friends there!

Two teachers I will definitely not forget are Mr Low and Mrs Wong! They are very kind and encouraging. Without them, I will probably feel that doing homework is super tiring and they make lessons more engaging not boring.

I will not forget about NE Show. That day, I met up with one of my friends to go to school and in the train, I saw my other friends and I felt very excited. We ate KFC chicken and drank Kiyo but that is not the most exciting and enjoyable part. The most exciting and enjoyable part is that we can talk to our friends and enjoy the NE Show with our class. We can take pictures and I even take picture with my teacher and friend! Even though I felt tired that day, it was enjoyable and I felt reluctant that the day was going to be over since watching the NE Show is a once in a lifetime opportunity and many people will want to go to watch the NE Show.

Lastly, to the P1 students who are coming to Waterway Primary School, don’t worry about not making new friends because I am sure you will! When things are hard, it is part of growing and have a growth mindset to embrace challenges! Don’t give up and do your best! Your teachers will support you and your friends are with you, facing challenges with you! I hope you will like learning at Waterway Primary School.

Torres Chan Zi How, 6 Care (2026)

I am grateful to be given the opportunity to be the Head Prefect, as this has taught me valuable lessons in leadership, resilience and responsibility, shaping me into a better person. Being a leader has allowed me to not only think about myself, but the people around me.

Some people may see chess as a boring CCA, but chess is a game that helps us train our focus, and our critical thinking skill. Critical thinking is a skill that is important in a situation when we encounter problems, which is also the reason I joined chess. Chess really helped me think faster and solve problems in a quick and effective way.

There are some people I need to thank, such as: Mr Low, My EXCO team and my teachers. These are the people who supported me along the journey as a leader. I am really thankful for them as they have helped me in lots of ways. Whenever I have queries, Mr Low will always help answer my questions and make sure that I have zero doubts.

One unforgettable event was when the student leaders went to Gardens By The Bay as a learning journey. The games were not only fun, but it also taught us to work together as a team, and listen to each other's ideas and suggestions.

One thing I would tell a P1 student joining our school is that to make the school a peaceful environment, we need to treat each other with respect and listen to each other.

Being a leader may be stressful, but it teaches us values, and the memories we make along the journey will be unforgettable.

Once again, I want to thank everyone who gave me a chance. Thank you!

Being a student at Waterway Primary has been a very exciting experience for me. I am very grateful for my teachers from P1 until now. Over the years, I met many amazing and inspiring teachers. When I first joined Waterway Primary, Ms. Cheryl Khoo was my form teacher. She is very kind and patient with the class. Madam Yeo Shu Yuan guided me in P3 and half of P4 as my form teacher. Whenever I made mistakes, she was forgiving and would help shape us into better people. In P5 and this year, Mr. Soh, Mr. Hoirull, and Madam Reena have been guiding my class and me on discipline. They are kind, and even though they may be strict at times, we also make jokes and have fun. I am very grateful to the prefect teachers too, having shaped me to have a better character. We do make mistakes, but we have to learn from them, and then we must try not to make the same mistake again.

As my CCA is table tennis, we must have a strong mentality. Whether it's the pressure or the training, we must push it through. One thing I learned from going to competitions is that, despite losing or winning, we must always give our 100% effort. Even if it feels impossible to win, who knows, maybe if we do our best, we might win it.

To the P1s, you may start on the wrong foot on your journey at Waterway Primary. But you have to remember, many teachers will guide you. It's really fine to make mistakes, as when you learn from them, you will not make the same mistake the next time. When teachers scold you, it is not that they want you to be embarrassed. They want you to grow from them. You will definitely meet wonderful teachers and best friends over the years. Waterway Primary is a safe place where you can talk to your teachers about your troubles, and they will listen with patience and guide you.

Have a joyful learning journey at Waterway Primary School!

Janelle Luo, 6 Care (2026)

Waterway Primary has always been the place I love. Since primary one, I felt the support and care my teachers and peers have shown me. As I grew up, there were challenges but with the support of those around me in school, I managed to overcome them.

I got my first leadership role at P3. I was a proud prefect that guided my peers and those who generally needed more support. I enjoyed all the activities and experiences that Waterway Primary School has provided me. From Learning Journeys to Overseas trips where I learned so many things.

Thank you Waterway Primary, I will always be grateful and thankful that my primary school journey was both fun and exciting. When I graduate, I will look back at this school, remembering all the memories I had.

Mysha Athirah, 6 Care (2026)

Waterway Primary is not just a school to me but a place where I learn, have fun and grow. This journey in Waterway has shaped me to become a more confident person. My CCA is Choir and I have to perform on stage so it was quite scary seeing many people looking at me. My CCA teacher, Ms Pua, gave me the opportunities to be in the first row. After a few performances, I managed to overcome my fear and I am proud of myself.

One teacher I will never forget is my form teacher, Mrs Han. Mrs Han is a kind, funny and understanding teacher. If I make a mistake in my worksheet she would call me to the table and tell me my mistake. Mrs Han would also sometimes tell jokes or she would have a small chat with the class and make the whole class laugh.

One unforgettable memory I have in Waterway was the P5 Camp. I had so much fun during the camp and I got to know my classmates better.

To all future P1 students joining Waterway Primary, don’t be afraid of the start of your new journey. You will have many friends and unforgettable memories. You might have some ups and downs but that’s fine because you have your friends and teachers around.

So enjoy your journey in Waterway just like I do! ♥️

Aarna Agarwal, 6 Empathy (2026)

Waterway Primary is more than just a school to me — it is a place where I continue to grow and discover who I want to become. Over the years, the school has shaped me into a more confident and resilient person, teaching me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and believing in myself even during difficult times.

What makes my journey meaningful are the teachers and friends who support me each day.

One teacher I deeply appreciate is Mr Low, my last year and this year form teacher. Whenever I forget to complete my work or make mistakes in class, he responds with patience and understanding instead of anger. His calm and forgiving nature has taught me an important lesson — that kindness and forgiveness can positively influence others more than harshness ever could.

Some of my most unforgettable memories come from school celebrations, class activities, performances, and simple moments spent laughing with friends during recess. While these experiences may appear ordinary at first, they are the moments that make school life meaningful and enjoyable. They remind me that the best parts of primary school are not only the achievements, but also the friendships, shared experiences, and memories created along the way.

To every future P1 student joining the Waterway family, cherish every experience and never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Make new friends, try new opportunities, and appreciate the people around you. Your years here may pass by quickly just like mine, but the memories and values you gain will stay with you forever.

Watching my children grow through the school journey has been both meaningful and rewarding. The experiences, lessons, and opportunities provided by the school have shaped not only academic learning but also personal character and confidence. As a parent, I have seen positive changes in responsibility, courage, and independence over time. The strong partnership between parents and the school has played an important role in supporting the children's development. I truly appreciate the school’s dedication to involving parents as part of the child’s educational journey. The school has encouraged resilience, curiosity, teamwork, and self-confidence. It has been encouraging to witness my child develop important life skills alongside academic achievements. I would like to express sincere appreciation to the teachers and staff for their patience, commitment, and care, especially during the early years in Waterway Primary School.

Nuqman: Mdm Yeo, Mdm Aida, Cikgu Asiah

Ammar: Mr Aidilfitrilan, Mdm Shilpa

Their continuous encouragement and guidance have made a positive impact on my child’s learning experience. The efforts made behind the scenes to create a nurturing environment are truly valued by parents like myself. The school environment provides students with opportunities to explore their interests while feeling supported and respected. From school events and classroom activities to friendships and achievements, these moments have become valuable milestones. I encourage the school to continue inspiring students with the same passion and dedication. May the school continue to nurture future generations with compassion, knowledge, and strong values. To the students, continue believing in yourselves, embracing challenges, and striving to achieve your goals.

Waterway Primary School has been a supportive partner in my child’s learning journey. The teachers are caring, patient, and approachable, always making the effort to guide and encourage the students both academically and emotionally. As a parent, I truly appreciate the open communication and positive partnership between the school and families. Since joining the school, I have seen my child grow to become more confident, responsible, and independent. Beyond academics, the school has also helped to nurture good values, respect, and teamwork. What I value most about Waterway Primary is the warm and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to learn and grow at their own pace. The dedication of the teachers and staff creates a safe and positive space for children to enjoy schooling and build meaningful memories. I would definitely encourage parents considering Waterway Primary to explore the school, as it is a place where children are not only educated, but also genuinely cared for and supported in their development journey.

The Waterway journey has been an awesome one for us thus far. The teachers and the school place a lot of emphasis on values and character building, especially in the early formation years in lower primary. I appreciate the partnership from the teachers, updating and reaching out if there are any issues, and also responding promptly to concerns being raised. I can see my child develop from a tactless, loud kid to a responsible, resilient and more tactful kid who's also learning to have more empathy for his friends and loves going to school. I am grateful to all current and past teachers who have been a part of my child's school years so far, especially Mrs Esther Cheng and Mdm Azlin, for being patient, caring, nurturing and also firm during the P1 and P2 years. Apart from academics, I appreciate the school's focus on developing every child holistically, in terms of values, mind set and other non-academic areas such as STEM, EEP, CCA, etc. My child has found his passion in badminton through the school. As a Parent Volunteer, I am able to participate in the various school programs and also be a part of my child's school journey. I have a better idea of what goes on in school and we can discuss about the same activities, which I find meaningful. For parents looking for a school that can provide a holistic development for their child, do consider Waterway Primary.

2026

Out of concern for my shy and introverted eldest daughter, I joined as a parent volunteer with Waterway Primary about five years ago. On a few occasions while I was volunteering, I noticed that she was eating alone in the canteen amidst the liveliness surrounding her. It broke my heart. That was her in Primary 1. Today, while still not a social butterfly, she has gotten friends of her own. My volunteering experiences have enabled me to find out how my children are adapting in school, and talk to them about it thereafter. A fellow parent volunteer once shared this; our children would love to see us get involved in school activities. It shows that we care. As a Parent Volunteer, my favorite event of the year has always been Centre Stage. It is a post-exam talent time show and jamming event that is inclusive and free for all to sign up. No auditions. No scores. No strict rules. Just celebrations! One thing I like about Waterway Primary School is, most of her students seem to walk out of the school gate happily. None of my children has ever complained about not wanting to go to school. This goes to show that the school is an inviting place. Finally, a special shout-out to Mdm Reena, my eldest daughter’s teacher (when she was in P4) for seeing the gem in her and encouraging her to be a prefect. She has grown so much since. Not forgetting Mdm Irene Gan, who is like a magician, always prepared with colourful teaching resources and ideas to bring her lessons alive.

3 Responsibility, 2026.

Our journey with Waterway Primary has been a fantastic one so far. The school and its teachers place a strong emphasis on values and character building, nurturing qualities such as a growth mindset, perseverance, and resilience in the children. The teachers are true partners in our child’s learning journey — always approachable, supportive, and willing to help. From Primary 1 to Primary 3, I have seen my child grow into a mature, responsible, and diligent young boy who shows empathy towards his friends and genuinely enjoys going to school every day. I am deeply grateful to the wonderful teachers who have been part of his journey. Mrs Esther Cheng and Ms Yeo were fantastic and caring teachers who nurtured him during his early Primary 1 and Primary 2 years. Cikgu Asiyah was incredibly supportive, especially since my child had no prior exposure to the Malay language when he entered Primary 1. Now in Primary 3, we are fortunate to have dedicated and encouraging teachers such as Mr Phua, Mr Lai, and our wonderful Malay teacher, Cikgu Rozana, who consistently go above and beyond to support both his learning and character development. The school strongly focuses on holistic development, creating a supportive environment where children learn that failure is not a roadblock, but a stepping stone towards growth and improvement. From the wide range of CCAs to fun learning journeys and events such as Book Week, the children are given countless opportunities to create meaningful memories and enriching experiences with their friends. If you are a parent who values a supportive, holistic, and empowering environment for your child, Waterway Primary is truly a wonderful place to be.

What started out as a convenient school choice for our family eventually became one of the best decisions we ever made. Waterway Primary has provided such a nurturing, wholesome, and supportive environment for both my children. Beyond academics, the school truly believes in developing children holistically and giving every child opportunities to shine in their own unique way. My children have had opportunities not only in areas like Math & Science Olympiad, but also programmes such as Photography, Confident Speaking, the Youth Innovation Team, Overseas Learning Journeys to Taiwan, participating in National School Games, and even being able to contribute to school events such as the Open House. These experiences have helped them grow tremendously in confidence and independence. Most importantly, my children genuinely feel safe, happy, and excited to go to school every day. Over the years, I’ve seen them become more responsible, more confident, and more aware of the importance of kindness, patience, and inclusivity towards others. They have formed meaningful friendships and learned values that will stay with them far beyond primary school. As parents, we also deeply appreciate the strong partnership the school builds with families. The Parent Engagement Sessions are always meaningful, interactive, and useful in helping us better support our children’s growth. There are also many opportunities for parents to volunteer and be involved in school activities, which makes the entire school community feel incredibly connected and supportive. The parents here genuinely look out for one another, and the school truly feels like one big family. We are incredibly grateful to all the teachers, staff, and parent volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes every day. From the caring staff who help manage the children and traffic, to the teachers who continuously encourage, nurture, and believe in our children, every contribution makes a difference. It is evident that the school genuinely cares not just about academic achievements, but also about building confidence, character, resilience, and kindness in every child. Some of our most treasured memories as a family were created here. From my son’s very first Sports Carnival where both parents could participate and our class proudly came in first, to watching my daughter perform her heart out at CentreStage for the first time. We still laugh about Children’s Day when even the Principal dressed up as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, and Book Week when our entire family dressed up as Harry Potter characters together. Another especially proud moment was seeing both our children receive awards during the year-end Prize Giving Ceremony. To parents considering Waterway Primary for your child, your child will not only be nurtured academically, but holistically as well. They will grow in confidence, character, compassion, and resilience. The school culture is inclusive, caring, and community-driven, whether it is through supporting one another, or simply always being willing to lend a helping hand. Waterway Primary is more than just a school to us. It has been a second home, a community, and a place where our children have truly thrived.

Waterway Primary School provides a nurturing and supportive environment where my kids feel encouraged to learn and grow. The teachers are caring, motivating, and always willing to guide them to do their best both academically and personally.

The school also organizes engaging field trips and learning activities that make lessons more interactive and meaningful. Beyond academics, the school places strong emphasis on cultivating good behavior, respect, and positive values in students, helping them develop into confident and responsible individuals.

We first chose Waterway Primary because of the proximity. I have seen my children grow to be more confident, expressive and empathetic. The teachers are caring, supportive and reachable, especially important during the early years when they just entered a new environment.

Beyond academics, Waterway Primary cultivates values through its RISE framework (Responsibility, Integrity, Self-discipline, Empathy) and strong student development teams. My children have the chance to try out elective programs and given opportunities to explore their interests. The school's holistic approach allows the kids to learn and grow at their pace.
